A hanging light created to explore the potential of creatively reusing Stella Artois 4 aluminium drinks cans. 38 cans in total create the Canster. A dominant feature in any room, it has the potential to be up-scaled for larger areas. The Canster can be made with minimal tools, giving others the opportunity to try it themselves, and add their creative mark.

Making Instructions (Login to see the full instructions)

Gather the above items.
Sand the logo from the bottom half of 38 aluminium cans. Start with coarse sandpaper and move onto fine wet and dry, to create a shine
Cut the bottom 35mm off the 38 cans. Sand the sharp edge
Buff the base of the cans to a shine with fine wet and dry paper, and polish
Using a Dremel drill 1-2mm holes into a pattern, on the base of 37 of the cans. A starburst pattern is used in the example, though yours can differ
Arrange the finished cans into a hexagon. They naturally fit together like this. Punch 4mm holes where the cans meet.
Press eyelets into the holes to hold cans together
Drill a 30mm hole into the base of the last can end. Sand the sharp edge
Cut both sides of 45 ring pulls, and slot them together to form 3 chains of equal length
Punch 3 holes into the main body, and 3 into the light fitting ring. Attach the ends of the chains to the main body, and ring
Screw the light fitting onto the ring
Turn on.
Final Canster hanging from ceiling.
