SHADE-001 is a reused lampshade made from large food cans. It has an industrial aesthetic. It could also be adopted to form a ceiling light or standing lamp.

Materials & Equipment List

safety gloves, 2 c-clamps, electric hand drill, 4mm and 8mm drill bit, rivet gun and 4mm pop rivets, tin snips, satin finish spray paint, 2 large tin cans, part of a lamp shade.A marker pen, ruler, masking tape, newspaper, brasso/thinners, a cloth/old duster, emery paper,

Making Instructions (Login to see the full instructions)

Clean any glue and dirt from the outside of the cans using brasso or paint thinners.
Cut down the side of the tin using tin snips. At this point you may want to use safety gloves to prevent cuts and afford better grip.
Sand away any sharp edges on the outside and the newly cut sides of the can using emery paper
Twist the can around itself and bend it in to shape, use a c-clamp to hold it in place.
After marking where to drill using the marker pen, drill 4mm holes to rivet the can together.
Now using the rivet gun and the pop rivets, fix the can together (I used 4mm rivets)
Repeat the clamping and drilling process, this time to attach the two cans together, and as before pop rivet this.
This time use the 8mm drill bit and drill the holes for the lamp attachment.
Now bend the lamp attachment in to place and around itself to secure it.
Once finished, mask off the outside of the lamp with masking tape and newspaper and spray the inside of the SHADE-001 with satin finish spray paint, make sure to use in a well ventilated area.
Once the paint has dried attach the SHADE-001 to the light fitting of your choice and use to create interesting lighting within your house.
