On average, 7% of household waste is glass. This isnt a huge percentage but to recycle glass is actually almost pointless because it takes just as much energy to recycle a glass bottle as it does to make new one. Light Ideas is easy to assemble and an effective light source that can be as temporary of permanent as you want it to be. It can be hung from the ceiling or used as a table lamp.

Materials & Equipment List

Glass Bottles: As big a bottle you would like to use. However the bottle should be tall enough to house a light bulb and the bulb terminal.Glass Cutter.Sand Paper.2 core electrical flex with bulb and fused plug.Long nose pliers.

Making Instructions (Login to see the full instructions)

Soak the bottle in warm water to remove unwanted labels and dirty marks.
Once bottle is dry, mark out a cut line, then score using glass cutter.
Heat the score line equally then plunge bottle into cold water.
Cracks in the glass will begin to appear. Keep repeating step 3 until bottle splits.
Once bottle split, immediately sand edges of both pieces.
Insert a length of 2 core electrical flex into the bottle, to one end, wire a bulb terminal and to the other end, a fused plug.
With a piece of wire and long nose pliers, tie the wire at the top of the bottle to stop the bulb from dropping.
Fit the bulb and turn the lights off.
