Making Instructions (Login to see the full instructions)

1) Lay the corks out in a grid in order to work out the required size of the mat. I used a grid 21 corks wide and 9 corks high.
2) Decide what you want to be written on the mat, where the writing will go and how many corks it will use. I used masking tape to do this.
3) Drill a hole through the top of each cork all the way through. I used a jig to keep the positioning of the hole consistent.
4) The holes should look like this and go all the way through.
5) Drill a hole through the side of each cork all the way through. Once again I used a jig to keep the positioning of the hole consistent.
6) The holes should look like this and go all the way through.
7) Place the corks that will be used for the writing in a bowl fabric dye (In my case this was 43 corks), keep stirring every so often to make sure the corks are covered evenly as they float. Leave them in for as long as required, the longer you leave them in the darker the colour of the corks gets. Once you have dyed them leave them to dry.
8) Thread the string through the corks. Go through all the holes on the top with the same piece of string forming a
9) Cut away the extra string and then you are finished.
