Description: Made from up-cycled poster tubes and postage string. The perfect centre-piece and lighting attraction to any room. This hanging light provides a warm, inviting glow whilst the shadows it casts create an endearing reflection around the room. The design aims to reinvent a household waste into something beautiful.

Making Instructions (Login to see the full instructions)

Cut the poster tubes accurately into 20 mm strip sections. Whilst being careful not to scratch or re-shape the tube.
Repeat the process in stage one. Sand down all edges to achieve an accurate and smooth finish.
Create a jig, which can be used as a template for all of your poster tube strips. I made mine using Scotts Pine as it was going spare in the workshop. The jig should accurately fit the poster strips into it and also easily allow you to cut the slot into them. This needs to be accurate as a miss placed slot will completely ruin your final product.
Here is an example of a finished section with accurate slots in. Once you have this sand it down and remove any uneven sides.
Here comes the tricky bit! Using the slots carefully bind the sections together. To create chains, for my product I created 2x7 chains 2x6 chains 2x5 chains 2x4 chains and 2x3 chains. You can do more or less depending on how big you want your pendant to be.
Once you have created the chains, using epoxy carefully glue them together. Ensure the slots at both ends are always facing down.
Here is an example of all the chains glued together, this shows the geometry between them and gives an indication of the shadows it is going to create.
Using the slots you created earlier on, slide the postage string into both of them.
Using MDF I created a light fitting, which will securely attach the pendant to the ceiling.
Measure and drill 2 holes in either side of the fitting, you can do either 4 or 8 depending on the amount of string you want leading up to the light.
Tie double knots linking the postage string from the chains to the light fitting. Ensure that it is the same length.
Securely attach the fitting to the ceiling and let the pendant do the talking.
