This beautifully crafted soup can lamp demonstrates the hidden value in household waste. The design was inspired by its predecessor the tin can light (http://www.co-oproduct.org/component/mtree/metal/tin-can-light) which saw the tin can and bicycle spokes used to construct the lamp treated with sand blasting and powder coating; whereas the soup can lamp demonstrates a more honest demonstration of used waste with no finish applied. It has been made using the same method of construction and use of the same components.

Making Instructions (Login to see the full instructions)

The first stage is to open the soup can use the contents and then thoroughly wash out. (The soup label has been removed to protect it from water and general damage as much as possible, this allows for a better final aesthetic)
Then drill a 2mm hole which will allow the spokes to slide through to form the legs.
Repeat the above step but this time lower down on the can. This and the previous step will need repeating on the opposite side of the can so that the four legs are equally spaced around the can.
Then Drill a 30mm hole in the base of the can to allow the light fitting to be inserted. I would advise drilling a 2mm pilot hole in the required position first to make it easier.
Step 5 is to reapply the Heinz soup label and thread the bicycle spoke legs through the 2mm holes. Arrange the legs in a way as to best balance the light and secure with string.
The final step is to secure the bulb holder through the 30mm hole in the can and tighten. Ensure all wiring is done by a trained electrician and PAT testing is recommended.
